Counselling and Psychotherapy Outdoors

Capo is a professional members organisation whose aim is to support counsellors and psychotherapists in taking their therapy practice outdoors. We also promote, develop, research the practice of counselling and psychotherapy in the outdoors.

Criteria for membership:

Open to qualified counsellors and psychotherapists (Arts therapists Chartered Counselling/Clinical Psychologists,) who are accredited members of, or are working towards accreditation with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), The United Kingdom Counsel of Psychotherapy (UKCP), Health Professions Council (HPC) and The British Psychological Society (BPS).

The group is also open to student counsellors and therapists on courses validated by the above organisations.

Research members: While CAPO is primarily a practitioners organisation, we recognise the important role played by research in the development of this field. With this in mind membership applications from researchers in this field will be considered on a case by case basis.

Aims of the group:

• To promote the field of counselling and psychotherapy in the outdoors

• To develop the field of counselling and psychotherapy in the outdoors

• To research the field of counselling and psychotherapy outdoors

• To further knowledge and practice in counselling and psychotherapy in the outdoors

• To develop ethical frameworks for practice, incorporating and adapting existing codes of ethics where necessary

• To explore areas of knowledge and practice where the existing outdoor education and experiential learning processes interface

•To provide an interface for dialogue with existing counselling and psychotherapy organisations

Annual membership fee: £20

To include newsletter, webpage listing (for qualified and student members), interactive discussion forum.
